Designing Life
Synthetic biology and the open biotech
The third of series of lectures, presented by Nevena Ivanova as part of the Open University program, organized by the Red House: centre for culture and debate in 2018. The lecture presents revolutionary technology, which is yet to demonstrate its transformative potential – the synthetic biology. The technoscience promises to turn living biological systems into programmable material and workforce, which could produce energy, food and building materials for the sake of humankind, but this direction raises many philosophical, ethical and aesthetic questions as well.
